Course Description

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the Creed of Ahl as-Sunna wa al-Jama’a according to the methodology of the Ash’ari school. The students will learns what are the tenets of belief of Ahl as-Sunna wa al-Jama’a, which are the schools of thought that are considered to hold an acceptable belief according to Ahl as-Sunna wa al-Jama’a, which schools pose themselves as proponents of Ahl as-Sunna wa al-Jama’a but are really a deviated and distorted version of it, the division of the Creed onto Ilahiyat, Nubuwiyat and Sam’iyat, the tenets of belief relatet to Allah, the Messengers and the Hereafter and its rational and textual proofs, the Shahada and what it contains of all this tenets of belief, the divisions of the Deen intro Islam, Iman and Ihasan, the six pillars of Iman, and much more.

This is an introductory level suitable for beginners but also beneficial to students of all levels. The main sourcebook of this course will be the chapter of belief of the Murshid al-Mu’in of Ibn ‘Ashir and its commentaries, but reference will be also made to the Umm al-Barahin of as-Sanusi and its commentaries, the Jawhara at-tawhid of al-Laqqani and its commentaries as well as other modern and authoritative works.

 

Course Information:

Classes will last at least 45 minutes. Students will be able to view the sessions on a ‘Wiziq’ platform and download the file of the session along with the instructor’s notes in the presentation. Students will be able to download all materials directly from the ‘Wiziq’ platform.
