Course Description

This course is designed to provide students with a solid ground in the science of Tajwīd Tajwīd (correct recitation of the Qurʿan). The rules to be taught will be common for both Hafs and Warsh recitations. The subjects to be dealt with will be:

  • Introduction & Prerequisites
  • Makhārij (points of articulation) & Ṣifāt (characteristics)
  • Istiʿādha & Basmala
  • Stop Symbols, Stop Sounds & Pause
  • Tafkhīm & Tarqīq
  • Lām & Rāʾ Rules
  • Qalqala & Gunna
  • Nūn Sākin, Tanwīn & Mīm Sākin
  • Idghām
  • Rules of Hamza
  • Rules of Madd

This is teacher-guided course to the correct recitation of the Book of Allah SAWT for beginners and students of all levels. The only precondition for the course if to know how to read Arabic with vowels even without understanding the meaning. The textbook to be covered will be “Tajweed Untangled,” published by Learning Roots.

  1. Introduction to Tajwīd. Makhārij (points of articulation).
  2. Makhārij  – Points of Articulation.
  3. Characteristics (ṣifāt). Istiʿādha. Basmala.
  4. Stop Symbols. Stop Sounds.
  5. Pause, Tafkhīm & Tarqīq.
  6. Lām Rules. Rā Rules.
  7. Qalqala. Gunna.
  8. Nūn Sākin & Tanwīn. Mīm Sākin.
  9. Idghām. Rules of Hamza.
  10. Natural Madd. Optional Madd.
  11. Compulsory Madd.

Course Information:

Classes will be live and will last 45 minutes. Each session will consist on theory and practice. The Tajwīd rules will be explained and the teacher will provide examples of the application of each rule. Those students who want to participate can request it and the teacher will correct any mistakes in their recitation. Students will be able to attend the sessions on a ‘Wiziq’ platform and download the recording of the session along with the instructor’s notes in the presentation.

Students should bear in mind that in exceptional circumstances the cancellation of classes may occur if the teacher is unable to teach due to ill health or other serious reasons. We will do our best to re-schedule any cancelled classes.
