Course Description
This course is designed to provide students an account of the biography of Prophet Muhammad pbuh and a reflection upon some of its more relevant details.
The subjects to be dealt with will be:
1. The Prophet’s Lineage, Birth and Childhood
2. The Prophet’s first journey to Syria and his toil to earn his living
3. The Prophet’s trade with Khadija’s wealth and his marriage to her
4. The Prophet’s part in rebuilding the Kaʿba
5. The Prophet’s seclusion in the Cave of Ḥirāʾ
6. The beginning of the revelation
7. The call to Islam in secret
8. Open issuance of the call to Islam
9. Persecution
10. The Prophet’s negotiations policy
11. The Muslim’s first emigration and its significance
12. The first delegation to the Messenger of Allah
13. The “year of sorrow”
14. The Messenger’s journey to aṭ-Ṭāʾif
15. The “Night Journey and Ascension”
16. The Prophet’s call to the tribes and the Anṣār’s acceptance of Islam
17. The permission to emigrate to Medina
18. The Emigration to Medina
19. The Prophet at the home of Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣarī
20. The construction of the mosque
21. The brotherhood among Muslims
22. The covenant between Muslims and non-Muslims
This course will provide the serious student the teachings and wisdom that can be drawn from the Prophet’s life. The main sourcebook for this course will be Fiqh as-Sīra by Shaykh Saʿid Ramaḍān al-Būṭī.
